Identifying Unicorn magic and Zebra Talismans/Spirits

To identify a spell being cast, a unicorn must make a successful science check. All other races must make a science check at a -30 to identify the spell a unicorn is casting, with the following exception: A zebra shaman can identify a unicorn spell with a survival check at a -30.

To identify a created talisman or one that has yet to be attached to an item/room, a zebra shaman must make a successful survival check. All other races must make a survival check at a -30, with the following exception: A unicorn that casts Detect Magic or has a spell that accomplishes a similar purpose may make a science check at a -30.

To identify a spirit that has become visible to the naked eye, use the rules for identifying a talisman.

Note: A character with the trait spiritually awakened may make a straight Survival Check to identify a spirit.

Identifying Unique Items

In order to identify a unique item (such as a named weapon), a character must have the skill that uses that weapon at a certain level. For example, to identify a named Hunting Rifle would require a certain amount in the Firearms skill. After using the item successfully, the item is considered identified.

The breakdown works like this:

  • Tier 0 Weapons: Any skill level.
  • Tier 1 Weapons: 25 Required in that Skill
  • Tier 2 Weapons: 50 Required in that Skill
  • Tier 3 Weapons: 75 Required in that Skill
  • Tier 4 Weapons: 100 Required in that Skill

Note: A Pipbuck does not automatically grant you knowledge on the unique abilities of a weapon.
